How it Works

The IRPP credentialing system is built around a simple principle: your credentials should reflect where you are in your career and where you're headed. The RPP process moves through five steps, with multiple credential pathways available depending on your experience level and area of focus.

  • Practitioner (RPP-P) - For professionals with 3+ years of hands-on experience.  Validates cross-functional expertise and qualifies you to pursue Specialist credentials.

  • Specialist (RPP-S) - Five domain-specific credentials for professionals with deep expertise in a particular area.  Requires an active Practitioner credential.

  • Roadside Systems

  • Back Office Solutions

  • Finance & Price Models

  • Contracts & Procurement

  • AI & Data Analytics

  • RPP Fellow - A leadership-track designation for professionals with 30+ years of experience and distinquished industry service.

How to Earn a Credential

  • Step 1: Assess Your Path - Determine which credential level matches your experience and goals. If you're new to the industry or transitioning from a related field, start with Foundation. If you have more than three years in road pricing, Practitioner is the right entry point. Specialists add depth once the Practitioner credential is in hand.

  • Step 2: Prepare & Study - IRPP provides a full suite of preparation resources: official exam content outlines, study guides, practice exams, and recorded webinars. Most candidates spend 40 hours preparing for Foundation, 80–120 hours for Practitioner, and 60–100 hours for Specialist credentials.

  • Step 3: Take Your Exam - Exams are computer-based and available year-round through authorized testing centers and remote proctoring.  Questions and Time depend on the credential and range from 120 questions and 2.5 hours for Foundation, 150 quetsions and 3 hours for Practitioner, and 100 questions + case studies and 3 hours for Specialist.

  • Step 4: Earn Your Credential - Upon passing, you'll receive a digital badge, physical certificate, and a listing in the public RPP credential holder directory. Credentials are valid for three years.

  • Step 5: Maintain & Advance - Keep your credential current by earning 40 documented continuing education (CM) credits every two years, remitting the biannual maintenance fee and adhering to the IRPP Code of Professional Conduct. Credits are available through conferences, webinars, published work, mentoring, and volunteer service to IRPP. Many professionals use the maintenance period to add Specialist credentials.
