Standardizing Expertise: The Role of the SMEAG
The core of the IRPP's mission is defined and maintained by our Subject Matter Expert Advisory Group (SMEAG). This is a voluntary body of recognized pioneers, senior practitioners, and domain thought leaders from across the road pricing domain. The SMEAG is a physical representative of industry knowledge, ensuring that the credential remains rigorous, relevant, and respected. SMEAG responsibilities include:
-
Curating the Body of Knowledge: Defining the "4 Pillars" of competency that professionals must master.
-
Developing Examination Frameworks: Validating test questions that measure real-world expertise, not just textbook definitions.
-
Overseeing Mentorship & Fellow Paths: Determining the appointment of honorary RPP Fellows based on their lifetime contributions to the field.
The Four Pillars of Impact
The SMEAG was established to bridge the critical expertise gap as the first generation of road pricing pioneers approaches retirement. By formalizing this multidisciplinary knowledge, the SMEAG secures the future of the profession through four essential areas of impact:
Strengthening the Industry
Action: Establish a common language and consistent standards across diverse systems.
Result: Reduced operational risk and integration costs, and a robust, professionalized industry landscape.
Building Public Trust
Action: Demonstrate to stakeholders that the people managing critical systems meet rigorous requirements.
Result: Enhanced credibility and accountability for the domain as a sustainable funding solution.
Attracting & Retaining Talent
Action: Create a clearer pathway for existing professionals who are new to the transportation space.
Result: A sustainable pipeline of skilled professionals able to lead the field in an age of C2X and AI.
Securing Future Policy
Action: Ensure the specialized knowledge needed to execute is preserved and passed to the next generation.
Result: Expertly-managed systems that can execute complex dynamic pricing and priority policy goals.
